The four town houses designed by Victor Horta, the architect to initiate the Art Nouveau style, are inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Belgium. These four, namely the Hôtel Tassel, Hôtel Solvay, Hôtel van Eetvelde and Maison & Atelier Horta are all located in Brussels, and are considered some of the most outstanding pioneering works of architecture at the end of the 19th century. They were inscribed during the 24th session of the World Heritage Committee when it met in Cairns, Australia, from 27 November to 2 December, 2000.

The nomination described the town houses as works of human creative genius, representing the highest expression of the influential Art Nouveau style in art and architecture. The town houses of Victor Horta in Brussels bear exceptional witness to the radical new approach of Art Nouveau in the closing years of the 19th century, brilliantly illustrating the transition from the 19th to the 20th century in art, thought and society.
