Iguaçu National Park in Brazil shares with Iguazú National Park in Argentina the largest and arguably most impressive waterfalls in the world, the Iguazu Falls, which extend some 2700 meters. The national park is home to many rare and endangered flora and fauna, including the giant otter and the giant anteater.

Iguaçu National Park was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site during the When submitting this site for inscription, the delegation representing Brazil indicated its wish to list Iguaçu National Park independently, without any link to the concept of transfrontier site. This is because Brazilian legislation did not allow for any commitment regarding joint management of national parks. The World Heritage Committee welcomed the willingness of Brazil to cooperate with Argentina in the conservation and preservation of Iguaçu National Park alongside Iguazu National Park across the border.
