Afghanistan ratified the World Heritage Convention on 20 March, 1979. As of March 2010, it has two properties inscribed as World Heritage Sites. Both are cultural sites.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Afghanistan

  1. Minaret and Archaeological Remains of Jam (2002)
  2. Cultural Landscape and Archaeological Remains of the Bamiyan Valley (2003)
Afghanistan also has another 4 properties submitted on the World Heritage Tentative List:
  1. City of Herat (2004)
  2. City of Balkh (antique Bactria) (2004)
  3. Band-E-Amir (2004)
  4. Bagh-e Babur (2009)
