Admiralty Building is a landmark in St. Petersburg. It is built in the empire style fronting Admiralty Quay. The Admiralty Building was designed by Andrean Zakharow and built between 1806 and 1823. It is located on the western end of the Nevsky Prospekt, and is easily recognised by its gilded steeple topped by a golden weather-vane. Looking at it closely, you will see that the weather-vane is in the shape of a small ship.
The Admiralty Building used to house the Admiralty Board, which is the supreme body in charged of the Imperial Russian Navy. It was established by Peter the Great on 12 December, 1718. The Admiralty Board was turned into the Admiralty Council in 1827, and this existed until the Russian Revolution in 1917.
