name: Abu Simbel Temple
country: Egypt
Unesco World Heritage Site since 1979, listed under Nubian Monuments

Abu Simbel Temple is one of the most famous ancient Egyptian temples in the world. It was originally located at the banks of Lake Nasser, and was moved in the 1960's to make way for the construction of the Aswan Dam. The archaeological project to rescue Abu Simbel Temple was a monumental feat sponsored by Unesco. The temple was relocated to an artificial mountain that is empty on the inside, but looks like a real mountain from outside.
